Yaw has over 30years experience in investment banking. He obtained a Law & Sociology degree from Keele University (United Kingdom) and subsequently joined the Australian and New Zealand Bank (London). He returned to Ghana and joined Merchant Bank Ghana limited (now UMB Bank) and rose to be Head of Investment Banking. During his stint at Merchant Bank he was involved in the privatizations of Ashanti Goldfields and the Social Security Bank (SSB). Yaw was also involved in the merger of British American Tobacco and Meridian Tobacco (Rothmans) and the acquisition of SSB LTD by Societe Generale.
Over the years Yaw attended a number of Executive programs at the New York Insitute of Finance (USA) in the areas of Comprehensive US Capital Markets, Investment Banking and Securities Analysis.
He is currently a Trustee of the Adebi Sarpong Foundation and is involved in charity work and rural development.
